The transition spaces are a very special feature of the museum complex. The surrounding scenery is extremely beautiful. However, since the museum interior lighting must be strictly controlled, there can be no large windows into the scenery, only occasional views. This way the visitor moves to the "outside" of the building before entering the next exhibition, and can enjoy the scenery. The transition also psycholocially prepares the visitor for the next exhibition, which might be completery different from the previous one. The scenery "cleanses" the mind from the previous exhibits.

The transition also has to do with the geometry and materials of the buildings. The different spaces are build into oval "pods". From the transition space the geometry, the setting and the material of the surface of the building are clearly visible. The visitor is in a space which is partly outdoors, partly indoors and partly on the roof of the buildings.

The material of the shingles is copper-zinc mixture, with a very long lifetime.
